Scholarship
Our Founders charged us to "strive for high standards of
achievement" and Sigma Kappa is committed to provide an
atmosphere in which each member can achieve academic self-respect and
self-responsibility.
Sigma Kappa recognizes that education is the primary goal of the collegiate experience and strives to provide a chapter life that supports this aim. Sigma Kappa further views scholarship as a means for developing a greater love of life and of the human spirit. Each Sigma Kappa chapter has an active scholarship program that provides challenging standards of excellence, motivation, and assistance so that each member can develop to her fullest academic potential and plan for a successful career.
Scholastic Standards
Sigma Kappa Sorority believes that each member needs to be sufficiently established academically so that she can participate, lead, serve, and enjoy her membership to the fullest. Therefore, each collegiate chapter sets minimum scholastic standards for initiation, for initiated members to maintain, and for officer and big sister eligibility. Our main goal at Delta Chi is to ensure that each member is in good standing with our chapter and obtaining their personal scholastic goals so that she can develop to her fullest academic potential and plan for a successful career. We feel that it is our responsibility to provide an environment to stimulate intellectual integrity and develop academic growth.
Our university has a 4.0 grading system with a 2.0 being “C” average. Currently, our chapter has a 3.0 grade point average. Sigma Kappa has very high scholastic standards. We require a minimum grade point average of 2.25 for women to be initiated into our sisterhood, and to be in good academic standing, one must have above a 2.3 GPA.
To assist members in maintaining a high academic standing, the ladies of Delta Chi have implemented the following scholarship programs:
-Study hall.
-Weekly study hours for those who earn under a 4.0 GPA.
- Academic workshops that stress vital scholastic concepts such as time management, study skills, stress management, and test-taking skills.
- Each member’s progress is evaluated through grade and attendance checks in each of her classes.
- Reward and incentive programs for academic excellence.
- A Scholarship Banquet at the end of each semester to women who strive for academic perfection.
- A separate motivational program to assist members on Academic Probation.
Academic achievement is a personal endeavor and depends upon one’s individual desire and motivation. Our Founders charged us to "strive for high standards of achievement" and Sigma Kappa is committed to provide an atmosphere in which each member can achieve academic self-respect and self-responsibility.
Rewards and Incentives
The ladies of Delta Chi have implemented numerous rewards and incentives into our scholarship program. Members who live in the house are assigned parking spots by GPA; highest in the front and lowest in the back. At each formal meeting a "Miss Non Miss" is named; this member receives a special award for not missing one class all week. Also, we nominate one member for our "Smart Cookie Award"; this member is someone that has studied extremely hard throughout the week or helped others to to achieve academic excellence. At the end of each semester; Delta Chi hosts a Scholarship Banquet to honor the ladies who strive for academic perfection. Awards like highest roommate GPA and highest Big/Lil GPA are given out. Also, each member that acquires a GPA of 4.0 will receive special recognition and a hefty award.
