Parents Club Information
Sigma Kappa realizes that the parents of our members are a valuable resource for our collegiate chapters. The objective of a Parents' Club is to allow parents to share the sorority experience with their daughters. Parents who participate in a Parents' Club know and understand their daughter's joy and excitement about Sigma Kappa. They form new and lasting friendships with other parents while having fun with their daughters through participation in Parents' Weekends, Fathers' Weekends, and Mothers' Weekends.
Parents' Clubs also provide added value to the collegiate chapters of which their daughters are members. Support of the collegiate chapter can include activities such as providing support and encouragement during recruitment, sending notes and goodies during mid-terms and final exams, and assisting the chapter and corporation board/property committee with property maintenance*.
Parents' Clubs are not required to have regular meetings to have an organized club. However, when many parents live close to the collegiate chapter, meetings and social events can be arranged to enhance the connection to the other members of the Parents' Club and to the collegiate chapter.
Parents interested in joining or starting a Parents'
Club for their daughters' chapter should contact the collegiate chapter vice president of alumnae relations for more information. Because there are tax and incorporation rules that may apply to the formation of a Parents' Club, the vice president of alumnae relations should contact the director of finance at national headquarters for further explanation and guidance prior to forming a Parents' Club.
*Please note - Parents' Clubs exist under the authority of Sigma Kappa Sorority. Any property improvements or purchases made for chapter housing facilities by a Parents' Club must be approved by the corporation board/property committee before purchases are made or work may begin.
